It's a matter of thinking ahead, really. This was something I wasn't very good at in my younger years; proof of this was when I finally bought a Bon Jovi poster. I do not think I was the only one who did this, but after the fact, I realized my ability to think ahead was nonexistent.
You might be wondering what in the world I'm talking about, but take my word for it, a Bon Jovi poster certainly taught me the lesson of thinking about what to do doing before I do it. It might sound silly, but sometimes the huge lessons come in very simple forms.
I went on a trip to New Jersey with a friend right after we finished from high school. She had a sister stationed there at an army base, and she invited us both to come over to listen to music rock bands.
As luck would have it, Bon Jovi and Skid Row were going to play in Philadelphia while we were down there. It was an easy drive up from where her sister lived.
We didn't get great seats, but I didn't care. I was going to see 2 of my favorite bands in one evening. This was a time when I was working with piano rock sheet music and rock piano sheet music while learning to play the guitar.
As you may imagine, my resources were limited, and I truly had to watch what I spent. Because we were staying with her sister, we didn't have to worry about hotel or meals, but the rest was my responsibility.
I actually did really well until we got to the show. I went to look at the collectibles and decided I could afford a program. I looked up and saw a large Bon Jovi poster that was also for sale. It was at least 5 x 5 feet in size, and I just had to have it.
Looking back, I'm not positive why I felt the must own it, and I frequently wonder what I was thinking. It was fifteen dollars and I definitely did not need to spend that much money on a Bon Jovi poster, but I did it regardless.
That was my first mistake, but it is often a common one. My mistake was not realizing this was not the very best purchase to make just before the show. The Bon Jovi poster was massive and even in its rolled up form, there was seriously nowhere to put it throughout the show.
It was a silly small lesson, but I always remember that when I am away. Save the gigantic stuff for your very last purchase, and if you're at a function or concert, don't purchase until the end unless you're prepared to run out to your vehicle prior to the show starts.
